It is a notch, or indentation, in the ventrolateral edge of the temporal lobe of either half of the cerebrum (Cerebral hemisphere).

Preoccipital notch Location

It can be found on the infero-lateral edge before the occipital pole. The Occipital lobe is situated in a location just posterior to the line that connects this indentation with the Parietooccipital sulcus.
